Your Tarot Birth Cards are calculated from your birthdate and reveal your lifelong personality archetypes, soul purpose, and the themes that shape your journey.
Tarot Birth Cards are your permanent cosmic companions — two Major Arcana cards calculated from your birthdate that reveal your core personality archetypes and life themes. Unlike daily draws that shift with the day's energy, Birth Cards remain constant throughout your entire life. They're the tarot equivalent of your Sun sign in astrology.
Every person has a pair: a primary card representing your dominant archetype, and a secondary card revealing the complementary force that shapes your journey. Together, they create a portrait of who you are at the deepest level — your gifts, your challenges, and the recurring themes that define your path.
The calculation is elegant in its simplicity. Take your full birthdate, add all the digits together, and reduce the sum to a number between 1 and 22 — each corresponding to a Major Arcana card (with 22 mapping to The Fool, card 0).
For example: July 15, 1990 becomes 7 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 32. Since 32 is greater than 22, reduce again: 3 + 2 = 5. Your primary card is The Hierophant (V). Your secondary card comes from further reducing the primary: if it's a two-digit number, add those digits. If it's single-digit, add 9. So 5 + 9 = 14, giving you Temperance (XIV) as your secondary.
Different numerological traditions vary slightly in their methods, but the core principle is the same: your birthdate contains a numerical signature that maps to specific archetypal energies.
Your Birth Cards aren't a horoscope telling you what will happen — they're a mirror showing you who you are. The Emperor-Death pair (4 and 13) lives between building structures and tearing them down. The Star-Strength pair (17 and 8) channels quiet resilience and luminous hope.
Once you know your pair, start noticing how their themes appear in your life. The Hermit-Moon pair (9 and 18) often finds themselves drawn to solitude and mystery — night owls, researchers, people who process life through introspection. The Magician-Wheel of Fortune pair (1 and 10) tends to be at the center of changing circumstances, always adapting, always creating.
Your Birth Cards don't change, but your understanding of them deepens with age and experience. Revisit your pair every birthday — you'll be surprised how differently the same cards speak to you at 25 versus 35 versus 50.
